How do you add a warranty option to products in WooCommerce?

WooCommerce Product Add-Ons Ultimate gives you a couple of methods to add optional warranties to your products.

You can use a simple checkbox or a dedicated warranty product with its own price and SKU. We’ll cover both, plus how to apply either option to multiple products at once.

Method #1: Add a warranty checkbox field

This is the fastest way to offer a warranty. The warranty price is added directly to the main product’s price, with no separate product to manage.

Step #1: Open the product where you’d like to offer the warranty. Go to the ‘Product data’ section, then click the ‘Product Add-Ons’ tab.

Step #2: Click ‘Add Group’ then ‘Add Field’ and set the field type to ‘Checkbox’.

Step #3: Label the field (e.g. ‘Add a 2-year extended warranty’) and enter the price on the ‘Pricing’ tab.

Step #4: Save and publish the product.

Customers now see the warranty checkbox on the product page and can add it to their price when purchasing.

Method #2: Create a dedicated warranty product

This method suits stores that want to track warranty sales separately, with their own SKU and reporting. With this method, the warranty can appear as a separate line item in the cart and order, rather than being bundled into the main product’s price.

Step #1: Go to Products > Add New and create a new product for the warranty (e.g. ‘2-Year Extended Warranty’).

Step #2: Enter its price and SKU.

Step #3 (optional): Set the product type to ‘Virtual’, since no shipping is needed.

Step #4: Publish the warranty product.

You now have a standalone warranty product ready to attach to other products.

Since the warranty product can’t be purchased on its own, it’s worth hiding it from the shop page and archives so customers don’t stumble on it directly. See hiding child products on the site for how to do this.

Applying the warranty product to a product

Step #1: Open the product you want to sell the warranty on and go to the ‘Product Add-Ons’ tab.

Step #2: Click ‘Add Group’ then ‘Add Field’ and set the field type to ‘Products’.

Step #3: On the ‘Products’ tab, select the warranty product you created in the ‘Child products’ field.

Step #4: Save and publish the product.

Customers can now select the warranty product as an add-on when buying this product.

How do you add a warranty to multiple products at once?

Rather than repeating the setup on every product, you can apply either field from a single location using Global Add-Ons.

Step #1: Go to Add-Ons > Global Groups and click ‘Add New Group’.

Step #2: Click ‘Add Field’ then follow the steps in either Method #1 or Method #2 above to create the checkbox or ‘Products’ field.

Step #3: Select which products to apply the warranty to the ‘Applies to’ setting. You can choose ‘Apply to all products’, or select specific categories or individual products.

Step #4: Save.

The warranty option now appears on every product you selected, without editing each one individually.
